On October 6, at the age of 77, Katie Clerides, daughter of former President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafkos Clerides, died. This was reported by representatives of the DISI party, founded by her father.
The party stated that the flags of the DISY Central Office in Nicosia were visited as a sign of mourning, and also said that the party would take on all the costs associated with the funeral.
President Nikos Christodoulides expressed his deepest condolences to the family and noted the contribution of Katie Clerides to Cypriot society:
“Katie Cleardis was an outstanding figure in public life, which left an indelible trace of his activity. Thanks to the spirit of service and social sensitivity, she made a significant contribution both in politics and in charity. She was one of the first women who actively declared themselves in political life, and paved the way for many with her example. ”

Katie Cleardis was born on May 10, 1949 in London. She freely mastered English, Greek, German and French, studied sociology and law in London, as well as political science in New York.
Her social and political activity lasted more than 40 years. In 1986, she was elected to the municipal council, and since 1991 he became a deputy of the Parliament from the DISY party three times. She actively fought for the world and reunification of Cyprus, the rights of women and children, as well as for the protection of animals.
The funeral of Katie Clerides took place on Wednesday, October 8, at 10:00 at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helena in Nicosia. Disy leader Annita Demetriou delivered a funeral speech.
“Her determination and willingness to fight for the benefit of her homeland and for what she believed in the distinctive features of her whole life. Until the very end, her concern was about others. About everything that symbolized her path and her presence. On behalf of not only the leadership present here today, but also our party and all those who honor her path, I want to say that we honor her memory as she deserves. This is the most important thing. We have lost a really wonderful person "
The party called on everyone who wants to honor her memory to make donations to the Palliative Assistance Center of Arodafnus instead of wreaths.
