Cyprus's public and private universities have once again ranked among the best universities in the world, strengthening the country's position on the international educational map.
According to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, the list of leading global universities includes the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the University of Nicosia and the European University of Cyprus.
The University of Cyprus took a place in the group of 401–500 best universities in the world, confirming its status as the country's leading scientific center. The university consistently maintains a high position due to its strong academic base, international scientific projects and active participation in European research and innovation programs.
The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the University of Nicosia were ranked in the top 501-600 educational institutions in the world. This is a particularly significant achievement for CUT: it was also ranked 686th in the QS World University Rankings this year, demonstrating the growing international recognition of Cypriot research institutions.
The European University of Cyprus was ranked among the top 801-1000 universities in the world, confirming its role as one of the region's leading private universities focused on innovation and close collaboration with business and industry.
The Times Higher Education (THE) ranking is considered one of the three most authoritative in the world, along with the QS World University Rankings and the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU). When rating universities, five key factors are taken into account: quality of teaching, research environment, impact of scientific publications, interaction with industry and international reputation.
According to Cypriot universities, the 2026 results reflect not only the growth of academic standards, but also the country's efforts to transform Cyprus into a regional center for education and research in the Eastern Mediterranean. In recent years, universities have been actively developing English-language programs, attracting foreign students and participating in EU projects such as Horizon Europe.
For Cyprus, these successes are of strategic importance: increasing international rankings strengthens the competitiveness of the national higher education system and contributes to the growing interest of foreign students and investors in the country.
