On Friday, August 9, employees of Goldair Handling, which handles baggage at Larnaca Airport, staged a two-hour strike following workers' complaints about unfavorable working conditions and staff shortages. According to Alpha TV, huge queues formed at the check-in counters.
Arriving in Larnaca at noon, the silver medalist of the Olympics in France, 34-year-old yachtsman Pavlos Kontidis, was forced to go out to the people who greeted him as a hero without luggage. His coach Jozo Jakelić, the only person in the history of sailing to win medals at four consecutive Olympics, was left to receive the suitcases.
