The District Court of Limassol decided the detention of the four defendants in the case of the murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenos, until the start of their trial before the Criminal Court, on January 29, 2026.
The four defendants, two 30-year-olds, a 31-year-old and a 51-year-old, were again brought before the Limassol court, which announced its decision, after the proceedings that preceded it last Friday, due to objections from the 51-year-old's defense lawyer.
The court pointed out that the 51-year-old does not have close ties to the Republic and that there is a risk of absconding from justice as well as influencing witnesses, something that applies to all four defendants, even though the defense lawyers of the other three did not, at this stage, object to their detention.
It is recalled that one 30-year-old is allegedly related to the purchase and sale of the motorcycle used during the escape of the perpetrators, the other 30-year-old is a convict and allegedly gave instructions, through the Central Prisons, for the purchase of the motorcycle, while genetic material of the 51-year-old was found in a stolen vehicle used to track the victim.
As for the 31-year-old, he was initially arrested for complicity after the commission of a murder, since he is said to be the person who helped one of the two 28-year-olds, who were arrested in Greece, to escape through the occupied. As part of the investigations, he was re-arrested for new offenses related to the Demosthenes murder, as he is said to be the person who ordered the fake number plates placed on the stolen vehicle, while as reported on Friday, his genetic material was found on a hat dropped by one of the two perpetrators, during their escape on a motorcycle, after setting fire to the van vehicle they used during the murder. ambush.
The extradition of the two 28-year-olds, by the Greek authorities, who were arrested in Thessaloniki, as part of a European arrest warrant, remains pending.
