During the cleaning of the site near his own house in one of the villages of Limassol, a 60-year-old man was bitten by a poisonous snake.
According to preliminary information, we are talking about a viper - one of the few dangerous species living in Cyprus.
The victim was promptly delivered to the nearest medical institution. Doctors report that his condition is stable, and there is no threat to life.
A photograph of the snake, presumably involved in the incident, as well as the details of the incident, was published on social networks by the head of the Cyprus herpetological center Yannis Angelis. He recalled that spring is the season of increased activity of snakes, especially in rural areas, where reptiles are most often found during work in the garden or in a personal plot.
The herpetological center is regularly shared by the useful information about the snakes of Cyprus, their habitat and the rules of safe behavior when meeting with reptiles. Angelis urged the inhabitants of the island to be careful, wear closed shoes and carefully inspect the territory before the start of garden work.
