According to the statistical service Eurostat, Cyprus ranks second in the European Union in terms of the percentage of people who read books.
Just 33.1 percent of the population on the island is engaged in this type of activity. At the same time, 21.3% of the island's residents read less than five books a year, and 7.1% read between five and nine books a year.
Luxembourg is the leader among EU countries where local residents love to read books - 75.2%. This is followed by Denmark (72.1%) and Estonia (70.7%). Residents of Romania (29.5%) spend the least amount of time reading books. In addition to Cyprus and Romania, Italy (35.4%) was also in the top three from the bottom. The EU average is 13.8%. The data also showed that young people and women are more likely to read books in the EU.
