A 47-year-old Limassol resident reported that he was the victim of an online cryptocurrency investment scam, losing almost €11,600.
According to a police statement, on Monday, September 23, a man reported that he had found a website offering cryptocurrency investment advisory services.
After submitting his application, an unknown person contacted him, promising guaranteed financial benefits. Following the man's instructions, he provided access to his computer to help him create an account on a specific cryptocurrency platform.
In four separate transactions, the complainant transferred a total of €11,591.42 through the exchange to his personal e-wallet. However, on the same day, funds were transferred to another person's account without his consent.
The victim was also asked to deposit additional funds, but did not do so, resulting in him having to report the fraud to the police.
