Two residents of the city turned to the Limassol police with a complaint that they were victims of fraud, having lost almost three million euros in cryptocurrency. On suspicion of involvement in the crime, a 32-year-old man was detained. The court left him under seven days. He was charged with Internet monk, receiving money by fraud and crimes related to money laundering.
For six years, the victims used cold electronic wallets (offline wallets designed to ensure the safety of financial resources), in which investments in various cryptocurrencies were stored. However, they recently found that their wallets were hacked, which led to an unauthorized withdrawal of funds totaling 2.89 million dollars.
