Zelensky thanked Christodulidis for the support of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodulidis for military and humanitarian assistance provided by Ukraine.

The meeting took place on the territory of the informal summit of the leaders of the European Union in Copenhagen. According to Zelensky, the parties discussed joint diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable world, as well as the priorities of Cyprus during his chairmanship in the EU Council in the first half of 2026. The president emphasized that the positions of Kyiv and Nicosia on key issues remain agreed, and diplomatic work will be continued.

One of the central topics of the conversation was infrastructure and defense cooperation. Vladimir Zelensky thanked Cyprus for actively participating in the international coalition of countries that support the peaceful settlement of the conflict. Cyprus continues to provide Ukraine with humanitarian assistance, and also participates in international programs to restore energy and social infrastructure.

As Zelensky noted, Cyprus is not limited to declarations, but takes real steps, providing equipment, medicines and technical support to Ukrainian citizens affected by the war.

The summit in Copenhagen, held on October 1–2, 2025, gathered the leaders of European countries to discuss the security of the continent and support Ukraine. The meeting was held as part of the European political community.

The main topics were the strengthening of European defense capabilities, energy independence and coordination of actions to protect democratic values. These issues will again be considered at the nearest summit of the European Council, scheduled for October 23–24.

Cyprus, as Christodulidis emphasized, intends to continue to play an active role in the formation of a single European security strategy. During the period of his chairmen at the EU Council, Nicosia will make the development of humanitarian initiatives, energy sustainability and support of countries in crisis.
