There were 63,144 replacements of defective airbags, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announced, presenting the account of the progress of recalls of defective airbags.
According to data submitted by the companies to the Department of Road Transport, of the 10,782 vehicles whose certificate of suitability has been cancelled, owners who responded have been given 4,327 appointments to replace the airbag until the end of January 2026, it is noted.
As stated in the announcement, as part of the global recall process for defective airbags, 81,060 affected vehicles were initially identified in Cyprus in February 2025.
Of these, 7,134 vehicles have been written off or registered as immobilized, 10,782 vehicles have had their certificate of fitness (MOT) canceled due to non-implementation of the recall, while a total of 63,144 airbags have been replaced.
According to data submitted by the companies to the Department of Road Transport, of the 10,782 vehicles whose certificate of suitability has been cancelled, 4,327 appointments have been given to owners who responded to replace the airbag until the end of January 2026, as the delivery of the parts is carried out gradually and depending on the response of the owners and the scheduling of the appointments. Most of these will be implemented by November 2025, it added.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works says it is considering support measures for those citizens who have already arranged an appointment by the end of January 2026, and who belong to vulnerable groups or are disabled, whose vehicle remains immobilized while waiting for parts.
At the same time, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works calls on citizens who have not yet responded to do so immediately, ensuring the safety of themselves and their passengers, and urges companies to intensify their efforts to supply parts faster and serve citizens.
