December 9 Limassol court
carried out
suspended sentence for a 48-year-old man whose 6-year-old daughter was found to have traces of cocaine in her system. The emergency occurred in May 2021. The head of the family left the bedroom door open where the cocaine was stored, and his daughter entered unnoticed.
The case came to light after the parents of two twins contacted a Limassol laboratory in mid-May 2021 to request a drug test because their daughter was unwell and exhibiting erratic behavior.
The next day, a laboratory employee called the mother and reported that traces of cocaine were found in the body of a 6-year-old girl. The test results for the second child were clear. The expert advised the woman to immediately contact the police. Instead, the mother took the children and flew to Moscow.
The owner of the laboratory filed a police report. The twins' father was arrested and later released pending trial. During sentencing, the judge said he took into account a number of mitigating factors: remorse, admission of guilt and cooperation with the investigation. Ultimately, the judge decided that “this was an isolated, unfortunate incident.”
