A police officer of the Hellenic Parliament was arrested-His wife reported him for raping their children

The case came to light last Monday (18/11) when the children's mother, also a police officer, reported her husband for domestic violence. The self-imposed procedure was immediately activated and the policeman was arrested while on duty guarding the main building of the Parliament.

The following day, on 19/11, by decision of the guard of the Parliament, the particular police officer was expelled from the security service of the parliament, while on November 20, the competent authorities imposed a one-year suspended prison sentence on him.

Custody of the children has been taken away from the parents

According to parliamentary sources, the defendant threatened to commit suicide, as a result of which he was transferred to a psychiatric clinic. Immediately after his incarceration in the mental hospital on 20/11 his wife visited the police station again adding to the original complaints of domestic violence and the serious allegations of rape of their children by her husband.

According to the information, custody of the children has been temporarily removed from the family by decision of the competent juvenile prosecutor's office.

The police officer was removed from Parliament

The policeman in question had been serving in the Security Service of the Parliament since the beginning of 2019, while he had been deprived of the ability to carry a weapon for psychological reasons.

After the complaint, the president of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, also intervened in the case, immediately removing the complained police officer from the Security Service.

The arrested person was remanded in custody on November 20 and sentenced to one year in prison with a suspended sentence. After the accusation against him, the police officer allegedly told his mother that he would kill himself, as a result of which ELAS searched for him and took him to the Army psychiatric hospital.

However, the wife of the police officer, also a police officer, who serves in another service in Athens, made new complaints against him, specifically for sexual abuse of their four children.

This "heinous" event led to a new pre-investigation procedure and also to the removal of custody of the children from the parents, as mutual accusations were made between the spouses.

The complainant's wife, who remains in the Army psychiatric hospital, is said to be pregnant with their fifth child.

The announcement of the Police

An investigation by the Sub-Directorate of Juvenile Protection is ongoing into sexual offenses allegedly committed by a police officer against members of his family.

It was preceded by a complaint by his wife, also a police officer, according to which the above, from 2016 until the middle of this month, committed lewd acts against their children.

The Greek Police, as soon as they were informed about the case, immediately and decisively proceeded with all the foreseen actions, with the aim of protecting the minor children and the complainant, demonstrating the zero tolerance for such incidents.

In particular, the competent prosecuting authority was immediately informed, by order of which the minors were taken to a hospital for a medical examination and accommodation in a suitable place. At the same time, a forensic examination and the examination of the minors, in the presence of a specialized psychologist, were ordered.

It is noted that in February 2024, as well as a few days before the above complaint, the police officer had sued her husband for incidents of domestic violence (verbal and physical), which were also properly investigated.

In the first case, the police officer retracted her statement and requested criminal mediation, while in the last case, she was granted the "panic button" application and additionally provided with protection.

In the context of the immediate response, the competent services proceeded with all the foreseen pre-investigative actions in close cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office.

As for the accused police officer, his weapons were immediately removed, while, following a prosecutor's order, he is being treated in a psychiatric hospital.

In addition, as part of the investigation of the ongoing case, criminal charges were brought against the police officer and a relevant arrest warrant was issued.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police treat this case with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

The actions of the competent services demonstrate the immediacy, determination and transparency that govern the approach of ELAS, with the aim of ensuring the protection of victims and the full rendering of justice.
