A young college graduate with a personal issue involving the medical community has been arrested on suspicion of murdering UnitedHealthcare chief Mark Thompson last week in New York.
This is Luigi Mangione, 26 years old, who was arrested on Monday morning (afternoon in Greece) in a fast food restaurant in Pennsylvania after a manhunt.
The New York Post reports that he is an anti-capitalist who has said he agrees with the positions of the Unabomber (Ted Kaczynski).
The young man was arrested with a gun, a silencer, four fake IDs and a manifesto against the health industry and in particular for its huge profits and - according to him - its dark motives. The manifesto, the New York Post reports specifically, is 2.5 handwritten pages of stuff written by the Unabomber, an elusive bomber for decades who was arrested in 1996 and died in prison last year.
According to the American newspaper, he had personal reasons to dislike the industry that involved the treatment of a relative.
As for his resume, on his LinkedIn page he said that he worked in a nursing home for a few months in 2014 while he was still in high school. On the website Goodreads, where users comment on books they've read, Maggione liked many different texts about everything from Socrates to Bruce Lee and the Unabomber.
In addition, he followed online actions with an anti-capitalist character or in favor of climate change.
He had graduated in 2016 from an all-boys school in Baltimore with high tuition. He said then that he intended to study artificial intelligence. Later in his posts, the 26-year-old wrote that he graduated from a good private university with mechanical engineering studies with a high score (cum laude).
Maggione is believed to have acted alone. It is not yet known if he has spoken to the police.
