MPs propose postponing the discussion, in the Plenary Session of the Parliament, of AKEL's proposal to impose an extraordinary tax, with a rate of 5% on the profits of the banks for 2024 and 2025.
As the parliamentary editor of RIK, Nikos Schizas, reports, the proposal seems to gather the support of the majority of MPs.
Based on AKEL's proposal, which is also supported by the Environmentalists, the so-called solidarity fee is expected to raise 100 million euros, which should be given to support vulnerable citizens and borrowers, in order to deal with the extraordinary conditions that have been created due to of the rise in inflation over the last three years.
The session of the Plenary of the Parliament will be broadcast directly by the high-definition channel of RIK and the First Program.
