Seminar on Ethics and Ethics in Public Administration at Frederick University

The Department of Law of Frederick University and the Pangyprian Union of Public Servants (PA.SY.DY.Y.) are co-organizing a Seminar on "Ethics and ethics as a compass for administrative action", on Thursday, October 31 at 5:30 p.m. at Frederick University, in Nicosia. 

The Conference deals with issues of ethics and ethics in connection with the role of modern public administration and the special position of public servants. The reflection and the approach to the basic questions asked lead to the conclusion in principle that administrative ethics is not something static, but changes and follows the economic, social, political and cultural developments of each time and space.

"In recent years, administrative ethics has concerned the administrations of many countries, the institutions at the level of the European Union and International Organizations, in the context of dealing with maladministration, fighting corruption and improving the administrative environment," comments Dr. Maria Stylianidou, Assistant Professor at Department of Law, Frederick University and one of the speakers of the Conference. "The ethics of each employee is not enough by itself, without an institutionalized ethical political and administrative system. The aim of the conference is to underline the need for a code of ethics and ethics to guide public servants and administrative action in general, especially in cases critical to making the right decision and avoiding conflicts of interest. In this code, ethical values ​​such as consistency, responsibility, reliability, objectivity, meritocracy, equality and efficiency, the lack of which translates into a moral deficit.”

The Rector of Frederick University, Professor Giorgos Dimosthenous, and the General Secretary of PASYDY, Mr. Stratis Matthaiou, will welcome the Conference.

An introductory speech will be made by Mr. Nikos Chr. Charalambous, former Assistant Attorney General and former Commissioner of Administration and Dr. Maria Stylianidou, Assistant Professor of the Department of Law at Frederick University, Mr. Aristos Tsiartas, Head of International Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, and Ms. Nasia will make presentations. This will be followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Vassiliki Karagounis, Chair of the Department of Law at Frederick University.

The event is recognized as a non-certified program for purposes of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) of lawyers, according to the C.D.P. Regulation. 386/2017 with 2 non-certified CPD credits, which will be credited by Frederick University to lawyers who have attended the seminar in its entirety.
