The deliberations of the parliamentarians are taking place until the end of the day, regarding the proposed law that has been submitted for the dangerous TAKATA airbags, with the Transport Committee convening an extraordinary session, during which the proposal to withdraw the matter from the Plenary of the Parliament was also raised.
The latest developments, with announcements from companies to recall thousands of vehicles, as well as the panic that has been caused, have led MPs to have second thoughts. In this direction, the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party decided to submit to the Transport Committee an amendment to the proposed law, which provides that instead of the companies having three months to recall vehicles with dangerous airbags, they have twelve months from the day when the legislation will be passed.

The amendment in question was tabled at the extraordinary session of the Transport Committee, which is meeting even now, a few minutes before the start of the Plenary, to decide whether there is a suitable ground for the amendment to be tabled or not before the Plenary.
However, as informed by

, during the debate another proposal was submitted, which is gaining ground, that the matter be withdrawn and not discussed in the Plenary, as planned. MPs on the Transport Committee are expected to be locked in their seats shortly before the start of Plenary and the decision will be announced during the debate on the motion.
It is recalled that the aim of the proposal is to create a better surveillance of cars, in an attempt to map the situation and outline the exact number of vehicles that may have defective airbags.
It is noted that after the announcement of the company Geo Pavlides Automotive, the authorities emphasize that there is a huge volume of vehicles that are affected, after the announcement of the recall of Mazda Demio vehicles, which have been imported as used from non-EU countries, to replace the TAKATA brand airbag in the passenger seat.
After the announcement, the owners of the affected vehicles started calling the company, causing panic and Mazda Cyprus announcing that a special call center would be set up to respond to the citizens.
