Results of Deputy Minister of Shipping's visit to Hong Kong

The Deputy Minister of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs. Hatzimanoli, visited Hong Kong, where she participated in the World Summit on Shipping and Trade, organized by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in collaboration with the Government's Office of Transport of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Shipowners' Association, upon invitation of the President of the International Maritime Chamber, Mr. Emanuele Grimaldi.

During the session, issues related to the resilience of the shipping industry during crises were discussed where the challenges and opportunities facing the shipping industry were analyzed.

During her stay in Hong Kong, the Deputy Minister, accompanied by the Ambassador of Cyprus in China and the Honorary Consul of Cyprus in Hong Kong, met with officials of the Local Authorities and executives of the local and global maritime community.

He also had a meeting with the Chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners' Association, where they exchanged views on the challenges facing global shipping and finding synergies for further cooperation.

In the context of the Synod, a constructive dialogue developed with its counterparts and representatives of the international maritime community, while it had the opportunity to exchange views on the future of global shipping, with the President of the International Chamber of Shipping, Mr. Emanuele Grimaldi. 

At a press conference, where the Deputy Minister presented the advantages of the Cypriot registry as well as the investment opportunities that Cyprus offers in the shipping sector, she said:

“The shipping industry is at a pivotal moment and it is important that both governments and the private sector work together to achieve its resilience and seize new opportunities. Cyprus plays an important role in the global shipping sector and we are convinced that our cooperation with Hong Kong will bring significant benefits for both of us".

The presence of Ms Hatzimanoli in Hong Kong underlines Cyprus's dedication to strengthening its position in the global maritime landscape and its commitment to promoting international partnerships.
