On the morning of October 5, one of the cafes in the Dali area turned into the arena of a real political thriller with elements of ancient drama and slight madness. It all started with a discussion about the new mayor of New York, Zokhran Mamdani.
A regular visitor to the cafe, Barba Lefkos, philosophically noted that this candidacy will not change anything for Americans. His friend Papis did not agree with this and then, as they say, it began.
First, a cup of Cypriot coffee and cards flew at the opponent, and then the furniture was used. The owner of the cafe, Coconut, tried to separate the disputants, hiding behind the collection album Λαϊκού Καφεκοπτείου, but the peacekeeping mission ended in a scandal and spilled frappe.
Twelve people were in hospital, one in serious condition after being hit in the head with backgammon. This happened after he dared to remark that Mamdani “looks like the grandson of one of the regulars of this cafe, who is studying in New York.”
The Dali Cafe police are investigating and warning citizens: “Avoid political discussions after 9 am, especially while drinking a cup of hot coffee.”
The owner of the Kokos establishment told reporters:
“If I hear about Mamdani again, I’m turning my cafe into a sushi bar!”
