On Monday, March 24, the Cyprian fisherman Andreas Panayotidis became the owner of a rare catch-a young short-grade of shark-Mako (Isurus Oxyrincus).
The length of the predator was about 1.2 meters, and the weight was about 10 kg. Mako is one of the fastest sharks in the world. It can accelerate to 70 km/h, making it a real “formula 1” among sea predators.
An adult shark shark is potentially dangerous for humans, especially if it is provoked. However, attacks on people are an extremely rare occurrence. According to the International Nature Conservation Union (IUCN), MACO are threatened by disappearance due to the shifts and trade in fins. The catch of these sharks is strictly regulated, and according to the law they must be released back into the sea.
Interesting facts about adults:
Reach 4 meters in length, weight can gain up to 500 kg in the diet, various types of fish are included, including tuna, mackerel and squid live in tropical and subtropical seas
Although such sharks should be immediately released, remains unknown, whether Panayotidis released its prey or not. The fact is that maco meat is highly appreciated by gourmets for a delicate texture and a rich taste, and fins can be sold in the markets. Recall that a violation of prohibitions on catching rare species threatens with large fines and sanctions.
