The murder weapon and clothes of the 58-year-old accused who committed a brutal crime in Paphos have still not been found. Amid the ongoing investigation, the funeral of 26-year-old Alexandros Antoniou took place today.
The investigation faces key gaps: the knife with which the young man was killed has disappeared without a trace. The suspect's clothing, which he was wearing at the time of the attack, was also not found.
Another important question is whether the fatal meeting at the kiosk was planned in advance or happened by accident. The answer will be obtained after analyzing the camera footage.
Meanwhile, the police leadership categorically denies allegations of negligence in preventing the murder. According to law enforcement, the complaint against the victim was filed approximately 45-50 minutes before the tragedy - too late to prevent the attack.
According to available information, the victim's ex-partner reported specific threats to authorities. Her 58-year-old father was arrested and is in custody on charges of first-degree murder.
The funeral of Alexandros Antoniou will take place on Tuesday 25 November at 14:30 at the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Emba.
The murder itself occurred around 6:15 pm on Wednesday, November 19, near a kiosk in Konya. During the argument, the father of the victim's partner pulled out a knife and stabbed Alexandros Antonio several times. The first blows were struck while Antonio was sitting in his car. The attacker then opened the passenger door and continued to strike him in the neck, back of the head and thigh.
The victim was taken to Paphos Hospital in serious condition, then transferred to a private clinic. He remained in critical condition until 2:44 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, when he died from his injuries. The fatal wound was inflicted in the neck and damaged the right carotid artery.
