Parts of the balcony hit Nikosia

On the morning of Friday, May 23, in Nicosia there was a partial collapse of the balcony on Kallipoleos Avenue.

The incident happened in one of the residential buildings: fragments of the structure with a loud roar collapsed directly onto the sidewalk at the entrance to the building.

As can be seen in the pictures published by the Omegalive portal, the fragments of the balcony showered literally a few centimeters from the door of the popular cafeteria located on the ground floor. Fortunately, at the time of the collapse of passers -by was not a nearby, and no one was injured. Nevertheless, traces of destruction are noticeable on the facade of the building - deep cracks, felled reinforcement and areas with crumbling concrete are alarming among residents.

Within an hour after the incident, the potentially dangerous zone was fenced - wooden pallets were installed around the place of fall and signal tapes were pulled. Now the territory remains inaccessible to passers -by.

The residents of the house, according to eyewitnesses, are alarmed: according to them, the design has long been doubtful, and the signs of wear were noticeable long before the incident. The arrival of specialists in construction examination is expected to evaluate the condition of the building and give recommendations on further actions.

The incident again raises the issue of the need to regularly verify the technical condition of old buildings in Cyprus, especially in densely populated areas, where the consequences of such collapse can be tragic.
