Sunday morning, November 16, in the center of Nicosia was overshadowed by an unexpected incident.
An elderly man, driving up to the Faneromeni Temple to pick up his wife, accidentally hit her with a car. According to police, the driver mixed up the gears and, instead of going forward, went backward, causing the car to jerk sharply, catching the woman and partially dragging her along the road.
The car stopped only after crashing into the tables of a street cafe standing opposite the church. Eyewitnesses claim that everything happened literally in seconds, and the woman herself, despite the fright, remained conscious. According to preliminary information, she suffered minor head injuries. An ambulance team arrived at the scene and took the victim to the hospital for further examination, where doctors assess her condition as stable.
The incident attracted a lot of attention from local residents, especially considering that the Faneromeni area is usually filled with people in the morning hours, and such an error could have led to much more serious consequences. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, and experts reiterate the importance of attentiveness and regular testing of driving skills, especially for older drivers.
