On August 24, a stray husky attacked a 16-year-old teenager in the village of Kapedes in Nicosia. Authorities managed to catch the vicious animal several days after the incident.
Kapedes Community Council President Andreas Kitromilidis said two dog hunters discovered a vicious husky in an area of Kapedes. With the help of a special pharmaceutical drug provided by a veterinarian, the dog was immobilized and captured.
The animal is currently at the veterinarian, where it will undergo a medical examination and laboratory tests. The results will be shared with the injured teenager and his family, who from the outset had serious concerns about the possible illness in the stray dog.
According to Kitromilidis, if the animal is found to have a chip, the Kapedes community council will file a lawsuit against the dog's owner, since the dog has been walking around the village for four years.
The attack occurred when a 16-year-old teenager approached a dog outside a house on the main street of the village. The husky attacked the young man, causing him serious injuries. The victim was taken to Nicosia Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
The victim's mother complained that the stray dog had been roaming around the area for the past four years. She noted that since May last year the animal had settled near the specific house where the attack took place. Despite repeated appeals from the owner of the house to local authorities with a request to remove the animal, there was no response.
