On Friday, October 17, Stavros Demosthenous, a well-known Limassol businessman and chairman of the Karmiotissa football club, was killed near Tsirio Street in Limassol.
The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. when an unknown assailant arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at Demosthenous' vehicle. The businessman received several gunshot wounds and died on the spot. The shooter fled and his whereabouts are still unknown.
According to police, Demosthenous was well known in the city's sports and business circles.
Police and emergency services attended the scene and the area was cordoned off. Forensic experts are conducting an inspection, and investigators are interviewing eyewitnesses who may have noticed the shooter or the motorcycle on which he fled.
According to preliminary data, the attack is in the nature of a contract killing.
The investigation is ongoing. Police urge members of the public with any information to contact their nearest police station.
