On January 6, the traditional Epiphany ceremony in Limassol was marred by an incident after the Holy Cross used in the rite of blessing the waters disappeared.
The ritual of immersing the cross in the waters of the old port of Limassol took place as usual, followed by a mass dive of dozens of swimmers trying to get it.
Witnesses report that one of the participants managed to get the cross first. The man loudly announced that he would hand it over to the priest, but, for unknown reasons, he could not do this. After this, the cross was lost, which caused confusion and anxiety among those gathered.
The police were quickly involved in the search. At the moment, the location of the religious shrine remains unknown, search work continues. Church representatives and believers hope for the speedy discovery of the cross.
