The streets of Nicosia have turned into a war zone!

Serious clashes between refugees occurred on Ledras Street in the center of Nicosia.

A video distributed online shows unrest and aggressive behavior of the participants in the conflict, which caused concern among residents and became the reason for the official statement of the ELAM party.

In their appeal, ELAM noted that the incident occurred several days ago, and emphasizes that “the street (Ledra) has turned into a war zone.” Party officials said Ledre was under the influence of "the same criminal elements that have repeatedly caused unrest," adding that such events increase the sense of insecurity among citizens.

“The footage accompanying our statement is horrifying, and once again confirms that the physical integrity of our compatriots is under threat,” the text of the statement says.

ELAM demands that authorities strengthen policing in areas where crime is rising and take “substantial and immediate measures” to prevent such incidents from happening again.

“We, as a state, cannot allow this situation to continue. Our patience is running out,” party representatives emphasized.

ELAM also announced its intention to hold meetings in the near future with representatives of relevant ministries, at which the party will present its proposals for restoring public order and improving safety on the streets of Cypriot cities.
