The search for a 35-year-old foreign tourist who was missing off the coast of Cyprus was activated after his rented boat was found drifting without people aboard.
The inflatable vessel was noticed near Argaki, about 200 meters from the shore, at about 16:30 on Tuesday, April 22, which served as a reason for a large -scale rescue operation.
According to Mikhalis Nikolau, assistant to the head of the Paphos police operational department, the man alone went from the Harbor Lachi at 10:30 in the morning on a short excursion.
When a few hours later the boat was discovered without traces of a tourist, the authorities immediately started multidisciplinary searches with the participation of two helicopters, the patrols of the naval police and the ground groups of the Paphos police.
Despite extensive efforts, the man has not yet been found. The joint coordination center for salvation (JRCC) leads the operation, the search continued all night.
The police do not disclose tourist citizenship, but is looking for witnesses who could see the boat earlier on the same day.
