Three men arrested in the case of the theft of animals in the xylophag area on May 10 appeared on the eve of the Supreme Court in Owner on the eve of the Supreme Court.
The court decided to leave them in custody until June 2. Three Turko-kipriots encountered 13 criminal charges related to the abduction of sheep worth about 15,000 euros. The theft occurred on the night of April 30 to May 1 on the territory of the British bases. Moreover, all three, according to the investigation, are associated with similar crimes in other areas of Cyprus.
They were detained with a red -handed early morning during an attempt to theft. As noted by the assistant to the head of the policeman of Jervia Dinos Peter, the abduction of agricultural animals in the region is a problem that is not faced with the first time.
“Historically, animals were considered easy prey: on the one hand, they are expensive, on the other, they can be quickly and imperceptibly taken away at night, when there is nobody around,” he explained.
However, according to him, the situation began to change: farmers are increasingly installing surveillance cameras and enhance security measures. In turn, the police are developing a more effective strategy for combating thefts in rural areas, attracting farmers, hunters and local communities to cooperate. Particular gratitude to Peter expressed the association of hunters of Cyprus, who played a key role in the discovery of the suspects.
“We have excellent interaction with hunters, and we are closely cooperating with them and colleagues from the police of the Republic of Cyprus. Such coordination allows us to quickly respond and hold the perpetrators to justice. ”
He emphasized that theft of animals is not just an offense, but a direct blow to the livelihood of farmers.
"We treat this crime with all seriousness and will not tolerate such behavior."
The next court hearing in the case will take place in less than two weeks.
