On Wednesday, October 2, the UK Ministry of Defense confirmed the participation of British aircraft in the operation to intercept Iranian missiles aimed at Israel on Tuesday evening, clarifying that they did not play an active combat role.
A statement released on Platform X said the operation involved two Typhoon fighter jets and a Voyager refueling aircraft based at Akrotiri Air Base in Cyprus.
“Due to the nature of the attack, no targets were hit, but the aircraft played an important role in containing and preventing further escalation,” the statement said. The ministry also noted that Typhoon fighter jets are not designed to intercept ballistic missiles, their main task is to destroy drones, as happened during previous Iranian attacks in April.
In addition, the British government organized a charter flight to evacuate about 200 citizens from Beirut to Birmingham. It is expected that additional flights will be organized in the coming days.
