International Omada News
Al Undeid air base, also known as Abu Nakhla Airport, is a few kilometers outside the Qatar capital, Doha, and is the heart of US airlines in the Middle East. So Donald Trump had also visited her.
On Monday afternoon, the Iranians targeted her by launching missiles against her.
With about 8,000 US troops parked at its premises, Al Undeid operates as a US Central Command administration center for the Iraqi, Gulf and Gulf. It is the basis where most US Air Force operations are guided, supported and coordinated.
The base also hosts UK forces, which alternate magazines, and has the longest landing corridor in the Gulf, an element that gives it a critical importance to transport heavy cargo and military means.
The US -Katar co -operation officially began in 2000, when Qatar giving it access to Al Unidid. In December 2002, an official bilateral agreement was signed, which fully recognized the US military presence in the country. Since 2001, the base has been under the immediate management of the United States.
In 2024, according to a CNN report, the US agreed with the Qatar government to extend their presence for an additional 10 years, further enhancing the strategic nature of the establishment.
The importance of the base is not only operational but also geopolitical: in times of crisis, Al Undeid acts as a power and stability point for the US in an extremely unstable area. It is no coincidence that he was targeted by Iranian missiles as part of the "Victory Announcement" operation, launched by Tehran as retaliation for US bombings in nuclear facilities.
