On Sunday, February 16, during the field work carried out by the Tashkent natural park in the Karapas area, about 14 wild donkeys were shot.
This was announced on Monday morning by a charity organization, calling the incident "a cruel act of violence."
The organization emphasized that the donkeys are a symbol of Cyprus, and condemned the brutal murder of animals. One of the donkeys was pregnant and gave birth to at the time of the shot, which, according to the organization, literally “torn hearts” of nature defenders.
According to preliminary data, animals were shot at close range. The police have already begun investigation of the incident.
The leader of Turko-Kipriot, Ersin Tatars, called what happened "disgusting" and expressed deep sorrow. He emphasized that violence against animals should be considered in the same way as violence against women and children, and declared the need to decisively oppose such crimes.
“Turko-kipriota is a people who love animals and people. I am sure that the perpetrators will be found and held accountable, ”Tatar said.
The incident occurred a month after one of the wild donkeys was in critical condition due to the wound of the hunter. The director of the Tashkent Natural Park Kemal Basat previously called the Strelkov “natural terrorists” and accused the state of issuing licenses for hunting people who pose a danger to the environment.
The natural park oversees the “Plan of the Office of the Caapas Office”, aimed at saving the animal population and the prevention of damage to the agricultural lands of the region. Within the framework of the project, accounting, medical examination and registration of all donkeys for three years, as well as the creation of conditions for their safe existence in the National Park, is planned.
