An informal dinner with the participation of Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will take place on October 15.
The dinner will take place in New York, and, as Tatar’s office emphasized, the meeting will not have an “agenda.” “The two leaders will exchange views informally,” the statement added.
The UN confirmed that the Greek Cypriot side agreed on the date after consultations with Guterres' office. An official invitation to both parties will be sent soon.
The Cypriot side has not yet confirmed the date, but government spokesman Konstantinos Letimbiotis noted that the meeting is expected and the government “welcomes this initiative from the very beginning.”
Ersin Tatar also said that he agreed to Guterres' proposal on the condition that the meeting would be informal and would not include formal negotiations on the Cyprus issue.
