The number of reservations for the first six months of 2025 since last year is in better shape, said the President of the Pancyprian Association of Hoteliers Thanos Michaelides, expressing moderate optimism.
As he said, there is a satisfactory reservation flow for 2025, noting that if this flow continues, then this year is expected to be slightly better than last year.
He added, however, that these developments in the global economy may negatively affect the main markets, such as that of the United Kingdom. "Although we are restrained optimistic we must also be prepared for any changes," he said.
Mr Michaelides also referred to the increased mobility that is currently observed in hotel bookings due to the coincidence of Orthodox, Catholic and Jewish Easter with fullness of about 75%. He pointed out, however, that after Easter, the fullness may be slightly reduced.
Concerning the main markets of visitors, Mr. Michaelides noted that they remain in the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany and Israel.
He also said that all hotel units are in operation, even those that had been suspended for a while.
Asked about the readiness of the hotel units about the placement of desalination units, Mr. Michaelides said that hoteliers have begun and studying, but also to move to install desalinations.
He added that they are unable to know who will be able to install these units, however, rather than many hoteliers do studies and are trying to see how soon they can install desalination units, he added.
It is, he continued, "a good idea, but with difficult application, as they are influenced by various factors such as where the desalination unit is placed, from the fact that it is noisy, from the issue of energy consumption," adding that it is also a good source of water.
Finally, he said that the Pancyprian Association of Hoteliers is in contact with the Ministry of Agriculture in order to contribute to the efforts.
