On Sunday afternoon, September 29, police caught and arrested convicted murderer Doros Theofanos, who had been on the run since Thursday. He was detained on the Limassol embankment at about 17:30 after a tip from a local resident. The criminal was spotted in the area of Agios Tychonas.
A man working at the kiosk recognized Theophanus when he came in to do some shopping and notified the police. Soon after, the area was cordoned off and the fugitive was arrested. According to the police, since his escape he had been hiding in an apartment in Limassol in the company of a group of foreigners.
Police spokesman Christos Andreou said that Theofanus did not have any suspicious items or a pistol when he was arrested. He will be brought to Paphos District Court on Monday to consider his continued detention. Theofanos' escape occurred on Thursday, September 26, while he was at a family dinner in Paphos, under the protection of headquarters staff and three police officers from the MMAD special unit.
According to police, a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of involvement in the escape admitted that he took Theofanous to Limassol, leaving him near the DHL warehouses in Ypsonas. He claims that he does not know where, after that the escapee left. Several other people were also detained, including the 68-year-old father of the criminal. The investigation is ongoing.
