Cyprus government revokes eight more 'golden passports'
The Government of Cyprus has announced the revocation of citizenship of eight individuals naturalized under the Golden Passports investment scheme.

The identities of the canceled citizens have not been disclosed, but it is reported that among them were investors and their relatives.

The decision comes amid an investigation into “suspicious” naturalizations linked to former Transport Minister Marios Demetriades. Investigators have collected a "vast amount" of evidence in this case. Demetriades, who served as a minister in the government of Nicos Anastasiades from 2014 to 2018, is accused of corruption, bribery and money laundering.

In 2021, interim results of the investigation showed that 137 naturalizations supported by a law firm associated with Demetriades were approved at cabinet meetings with his participation.

The citizenship revocation was the first since June, when the government revoked the passports of Russian billionaire Konstantin Grigorishin and oligarch Igor Kesaev, who were granted citizenship during the 2008 to 2013 administration of President Dimitris Christofias.
