On the afternoon of September 7, firefighters and rescue services fought with a major fire near the village of Muttai in the Limassol region. Thanks to coordinated actions, the fire was localized by evening, preventing its distribution to residential buildings and farms.
The fire flashed around noon and began to move towards the village. The flame was localized by six o’clock in the evening. 11 fire brigades fought with him from stations in Limassol, Larnak, Nicosia and Vasiliko. The fire was also extinguished by 11 aircraft. The fire department was helped by 10 fire engines and 62 employees of the Forestry Department, the Civil Defense Department, the regional administration of Limassol, the police, the hunting department and volunteers of private organizations. At a certain moment, the flame was close to the residential area and it could be seen from the highway. Fortunately, firefighters were able to protect houses and farms before the flame gripped them.
A large detachment of firefighters remained in this area at night to localize any possible fires.
The police received information from local residents, who claimed to see a group of young people north of the Muttayaki school, not far from the place where the fire began. Police is investigating the fabric version.
Meanwhile, the police arrested a 32-year-old man who is suspected of provoking a fire in the plates area in the evening of September 4. For arson, he used diesel fuel.
