A fatal shipwreck occurred 26 nautical miles south of Crete.
A merchant ship under the Turkish flag notified the Greek authorities of the existence of a deflated dinghy with shipwrecks.
A vessel of the Hellenic Coast Guard rushed to the spot and found 18 people dead inside the boat.
It is estimated that their death was caused by hypothermia and starvation.
Two passengers were rescued and are being treated out of danger. They reported to the authorities that the boat had become unruly due to bad weather and that there was no way to protect them or secure food.
According to information, the boat appears to have been the last of a group of seven sailors, six of whom managed to reach Crete. Because of the problems it presented, this particular boat did not manage to approach the land.
