The Limassol police said on Saturday, March 29 that the driver who exceeded the permissible norm by almost eight times was found in a motionless car in the middle of the intersection in Limassol.
The 48-year-old driver was seen at 18:30 on Friday by the Limassol traffic police at the intersection of Amatus and Ariadne Avenues. He was sitting in the driver's seat.
He was made a test for alcohol, which showed 169 μg, while the permissible norm is 22 μg. The offender was taken to the Limassol Road Police Department, where he was held a second test for alcohol, which showed 145 μg.
The man was arrested and detained for driving in a state of intoxication and interference with road traffic.
It is expected that he will be charged, and later he will be summoned to court.
The police again reminded the drivers that driving in a state of intoxication is one of the main causes of fatal and serious traffic accidents.
“Substances such as alcohol and drugs contribute to a decrease in the mental and psychological efforts of driving, as well as a decrease in the driver’s performance, which leads to an increased risk of getting into an accident,” the police said.
