On the morning of November 20, two 28-year-old men detained in Thessaloniki in connection with the murder of Stavros Demosthenous were brought to Cyprus.
The operation to transfer the suspects was carried out by Limassol criminal investigation officers who arrived in Greece the day before.
The police took enhanced security measures: immediately after arriving at Larnaca airport, the men were arrested on the basis of a judicial warrant. At around 11:00 they were taken to the Limassol Police Department, accompanied by a large number of police officers.
The interrogations of the suspects will take place during the day, and on Friday, November 21, they will appear before the Limassol District Court, which will consider the request to take them into custody.
Investigators believe both 28-year-old men played significant roles in the murder of Demosthenus, with one of them reportedly firing the fatal shots. The suspects are cousins, and one of them is a close relative of the previously accused 31-year-old defendant in the case.
The criminal case against the first four accused was transferred to the Criminal Court last week. The trial is scheduled for January 29, 2026. All four are being held in Central Prisons pending the start of the hearing.
The defendants face a total of 17 charges, including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a felony and murder, arson, illegal possession, transfer and use of weapons and explosives, car theft, participation in a criminal organization and receiving stolen property (the latter against the 51-year-old defendant).
The transfer of two new suspects was made possible thanks to negotiations between the Ministers of Justice of Cyprus and Greece Marios Hadgiotis and Michalis Chrysochoidis, held last week in Athens.
Police are expected to reopen the case in the coming weeks to formally name the two 28-year-old men as defendants.
