An elderly resident of Cyprus, 77 years old, lost € 142,000, believing calls from “investors”. For six months, he made 27 transfers to accounts abroad. The victim wrote a statement to the police. This is not the first case of a major deception - in March, the woman transferred more than a million euros to fraudsters.
In June 2024, the man came across an advertisement for investment plans on the Internet. He crossed the link and registered on the site. After that, he began to receive calls from abroad. The calling persons were submitted by employees of the investment platform. In September, the man began to transfer money to them allegedly as investments. In total, 27 transactions were made to different bank accounts abroad. Fraudsters received € 142,000. Communication with the victim continued until February this year.
The police recall that investment proposals on the Internet must be treated with suspicion. Before making any investments, you must make sure that the intermediary platform can be trusted. The investigation continues.
Recall that in March of this year, a resident of Cyprus transferred € 1.2 million to attackers. This is the largest amount lost by a private person during fraudulent actions. A woman from Ukraine, constantly living in Limassol, became a victim of deception. In the period from February 25 to February 28, she was called a man who introduced himself as an employee of the bank. He said that on her banking account suspicious activity was noticed - allegedly tried to write off money from him. He invited her to transfer all the savings to another account. The victim made 34 transactions, transferring $ 1 245 466 and € 32,459 to fraudsters to foreign accounts. When the woman later contacted the bank, she realized that he had fallen as a victim of deception. The victim announced the incident in the Bureau for the investigation of economic crimes of the Cyprus police.
