A 44-year-old woman, who was injured in a road traffic collision in Nicosia yesterday, is in a critical condition at Nicosia General, while police arrested a 26-year-old man for the incident, an announcement said on Sunday.
According to a police statement, the collision occurred at around 7.30pm on Saturday at the junction of Stasinou and Salaminos avenues, when a car driven by a 26-year-old man, under circumstances under investigation, collided with a car driven by a 42-year-old woman. As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old’s car moved off the road, causing the 44-year-old woman who was standing on the pavement to be swept away.
As reported, the 44-year-old was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where it was found that she suffered a fractured skull and was kept for treatment in the intensive care unit. According to the doctors, her state of health is considered critical.
The 42-year-old driver was also taken to the hospital, where she received first aid and was discharged. The 42-year-old woman also underwent an alcohol test with a zero reading.
Similarly, the 26-year-old also underwent an alcohol test, with a final reading of 111μg%, whereas the permitted limit is 22μg% , resulting in his arrest and detention to facilitate investigations.
Nicosia police are investigating the cause of the collision.
