German viral tiktoker makes Cyprus cleaner

A German named Niklas, who moved to Cyprus, became a real Internet phenomenon - and not because of dancing or jokes, but because of his High Mission.

He calls himself "The Island Keeper" and his goal is to cleanse Cyprus of trash and inspire others to do the same.

Niklas began his activities with a simple act - he cleaned up the beach, shot a short video and posted it on TikTok. The video went viral and soon people from all over the island started writing to him, wanting to join in. Today his team consists of more than 45 active volunteers who go out every week to clean up in different areas of Cyprus.

“I was inspired by my father,” says Niklas. “When we first arrived in Cyprus, he said: “The island is incredibly beautiful, but very polluted. Something needs to be done about it.” Then I realized that if this is my new home, I have to protect it.”

Through TikTok and social media, Niklas has turned virtual energy into real action. His videos receive tens of thousands of views, and each new event brings together people of different ages and nationalities.

“The most rewarding thing is to see people really starting to care about Cyprus,” says Niklas. “After every cleaning, we get together, share our impressions and just rejoice. Everyone comes voluntarily, but leaves with a smile. When you see the result - before and after - you understand that the efforts are not in vain.”

In the future, Niklas dreams of creating a non-profit organization that will unite schools, municipalities and local communities for long-term environmental change.

“My vision is a clean and responsible Cyprus, where caring for nature becomes a habit, not a task. Even small steps—like picking up trash or eliminating single-use plastic—make a difference,” says the island watcher.
