On Tuesday, October 29, new details were released about the tragic incident that occurred at the Burhan Nalbantoglu Hospital in the occupied territories of northern Cyprus in Nicosia.
According to police, the cause of the baby's death was a mixture with ethyl alcohol. In addition, six more babies still remain under medical supervision.
The hidden fact caused anger among the children’s parents: it turned out that the staff of the medical institution did not report the incident for 36 hours. Having learned about this, the angry mothers tried to get into the hospital. But they were prevented by a cordon of law enforcement officers established for security purposes. As part of the investigation into the case, five nurses were detained and taken into custody for three days. Parents demand that the culprits be severely punished.
Tufan Erhürman, who heads the Republican Turkish Party, sharply condemned the inaction of the Ministry of Health and in particular its head, pointing out that the latter was aware of the tragedy a day earlier than the parents.
He said the incident highlighted significant problems in the health care system in the occupied territories, including a severe shortage of staff in the neonatal ward. By the way, at the time of the tragedy, four nurses were caring for 22 babies, which seriously violates the recommended standards. It should be noted that the final result of the autopsy of the deceased baby has not yet been announced. It is known that the girl, who was only 20 days old, was buried yesterday.
