While on vacation in Cyprus, an 11-year-old girl suffered from a cerebrovascular accident and was taken by air ambulance to St. Petersburg for further treatment.
According to the mother, the child’s right arm gave out while swimming in the pool. The girl was taken to a hotel room, but her condition continued to deteriorate. The young St. Petersburg woman was paralyzed on the right side of her body. Treatment in a hospital in Cyprus was covered by insurance. She was given a preliminary diagnosis of stroke.
The press service of the administration of the Governor of St. Petersburg, on July 4, reported on its official website that the plane with the child landed at Pulkovo Airport. An ambulance was waiting for the girl at the plane's ramp. She was sent to the Pediatric University, where the child will undergo an in-depth examination, after which specialists will decide on further treatment and decide on the need for surgical intervention.
The mother could not transport her daughter from Cyprus to Russia. Doctors forbade taking the child on a regular flight; due to the pressure drop, the hemorrhage could recur. To transport a patient with such a diagnosis, you need a specially designed aircraft that has all the necessary equipment on board. The victim's insurance could only cover 15,000 euros for transportation, and they asked for 25,300 euros to pay for a private air ambulance plane from Larnaca to St. Petersburg.
The governor of the Northern capital, Alexander Beglov, instructed the Health Committee to take the situation under personal control. According to the head of the city, the family will be provided with all the necessary assistance in treatment and rehabilitation.
