According to police, massive rock and soil landslides occurred in the area of the village of Platres. In the area of the village of Allasa, one lane of traffic was blocked due to landslides. In addition, a lot of water has accumulated on the road from General Hospital to My Mall, causing a traffic jam. After yesterday's thunderstorm, several areas of the city experienced power outages.
The Cyprus Police advise caution for those traveling on the road network to follow traffic rules and traffic signals to avoid road accidents.
Meanwhile, according to weather forecasters, the island will become colder in the coming days.
Today the weather will be unsettled, with localized rain and isolated storms expected, initially mainly in coastal areas and then across the rest of the island. During a thunderstorm, hail may fall. Winds will be predominantly southeast to southwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, but may change and become stronger during the storm. The sea will generally be calm or slightly choppy. Temperatures will rise to around 24 degrees in the interior and coasts and around 14 degrees in the high mountains. At night the thermometer will drop to 13 degrees in the interior, 16 degrees on the coast and 8 degrees in the mountains.
There will be a local increase in clouds on Saturday, which is expected to bring scattered showers. Scattered showers are expected from Saturday evening into Sunday morning, initially in the west and north and then gradually across the rest of the island, with snow possible in the high mountains. Locally increased clouds will result in isolated rain and snow in the mountains this afternoon and evening on Sunday.
On Monday, due to locally increased cloudiness, isolated rain is expected along the coast and inland, with snow expected in the mountains.
