According to the Department of Geological Monitoring, an average of about 2,000 earthquakes are recorded annually in the sea off the coast of the island and on the island itself, that is, six earthquakes per day. But a person feels only 1% of them.
“We live in a region where significant tremors regularly occur, but with weak aftershocks. East of Akrotiri, there have been numerous but unnoticeable earthquakes since July 10,” says Silvana Pilidu, a senior officer at the Department of Geological Monitoring.
