Police at the British Akrotiri base have arrested a 20-year-old man. He is suspected of beating a 23-year-old woman and trying to strangle her. He will first appear before the British base court, after which he will be handed over to the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
The victim told police that the attack took place in her hotel room on August 31, where she ended up with a man whom she “had met shortly before.” According to her, the man beat her and then began to choke her, and she lost consciousness.
Having come to her senses, the woman began to call for help. She was taken by ambulance to the Central Hospital of the Free Territories of Famagusta (in Paralimni), where doctors provided her with first aid and released her.
