The 11th summit meeting of the heads of state of the Organization of Turkic States took place in Kyrgyzstan on November 6, 2024.

The summit, which was chaired by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar.

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar spoke at the 11th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, highlighting the potential of the TRNC as an active participant in the Turkic world. Tatar expressed gratitude to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov for the invitation, noting that the participation of the TRNC at the summit is of particular importance for the Turkish Cypriots.

In his address, Tatar noted the historical value of the Kyrgyz people and the strength that comes from the unity of the Turkic peoples, bound by a common language, culture, religion and roots. He emphasized the strategic importance of the TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean and its readiness to cooperate in all areas of the UTC's activities.

President Tatar drew attention to the unfair isolation of Turkish Cypriots and emphasized the role of Ercan Airport and Famagusta Port in expanding opportunities for the country. He also noted the achievements of the TRNC in the field of education, pointing out that three of its universities are among the top 1000 in the world, making the TRNC a center of scientific potential.

Separately, Tatar touched upon the importance of Turkey’s water project, which ensures agriculture and food security, and also noted the energy potential of hydrocarbon resources around the island. With more than a million tourists a year, the TRNC represents an attractive investment destination due to its developed infrastructure and skilled workforce.

Gratitude was also expressed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his call for recognition of the TRNC at the UN General Assembly. Tatar called on the Turkic countries to support and recognize the TRNC in order to achieve a fair and long-term solution to the Cyprus issue.

At the end of the summit, President Tatar took part in a commemorative photo with the heads of state.

As part of the summit, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was awarded the “Highest Order of the Turkic World.”

A commemorative medal with the flags of the participating countries, including the flag of the TRNC, was issued for the summit
