On Saturday, May 17, the British military bases (SBA) issued an official warning: before further notification, the Ladies Mile beach is not recommended for swimming.
According to the statement, recently laboratory tests revealed an increased content of enterococci in sea water, which poses a potential threat to the health of vacationers. Currently, SBA specialists, together with Cyprus ecologists, are actively working on the establishment of a source of pollution. It is expected that additional results of water samples will become known at the beginning of next week.
The administration of the bases also informed local authorities and entrepreneurs, whose activities are related to the coastal zone. Warning signs have already been installed on the beach, and the SBA police enhanced the patrol of the territory to ensure public safety.
Residents and guests of the island urge to be careful and refrain from swimming in this section of the coast until official permission is obtained.
