On October 21, Kairat played a draw at home with Paphos (0:0) in the third round of the general stage of the Champions League. The Kazakh team scored their first point in the tournament, but they were hardly satisfied with themselves, because from the very beginning of the match they were in the majority. There was a very early sending off, a curious ball that was cancelled, a post, a super moment from David Luiz.
But most Paphos fans after the match focused on the work of the referees and the canceled goal. In their opinion, the team deserved to win, but lost points due to referee errors and controversial VAR decisions. At the same time, many fans also criticized Kairat, noting that the Kazakh club only took advantage of the situation and did not demonstrate anything outstanding.
Here are just some comments from angry Pathos fans:
“Joao Correia let the team down with his stupid act already in the third minute. Failure and a non-existent offside, which we never saw on the replay, deprived us of victory”;
“The goal was absolutely legal. The English VAR showed only the player who scored, but not the other one who was standing further and covering”;
“Paphos was simply robbed, the goal was clean”;
“The match was bought. The referee did not hesitate to give a red card at the very beginning, and then canceled the clear goal!!! Moreover, VAR didn’t even look at the line for the far player, although it was clear that he was standing further than the ball. It’s just terrible how corrupt UEFA is, and “Kairat” is an unworthy club for the Champions League”;
“Anarbekov pulled out everything he could, but we had to score. The Kairat goalkeeper became a hero simply because UEFA decided to help the hosts”;
“Football in Kazakhstan seems to live by its own rules. VAR takes away the victory from us, but everyone there is happy 0:0”;
“Kairat fans are celebrating 0:0, given that they played in the majority from the beginning of the match. This is all you need to know about our opponent”;
“What did Kairat forget in the Champions League?”
Another part of the fans perceived the outcome of the match more calmly, noting the character and cohesion of the team. These fans emphasized that Pathos looked more confident and collected even in the minority, and the draw in Almaty was more of an unfortunate loss than a failure. Their comments show respect for their players and regret that the result did not reflect the quality of the game shown:
“How this game ended 0:0 is incomprehensible. After the sending off three minutes later it was difficult, but Pathos created the best chances. David Luiz came close three times. All the data before the match pointed to our victory - that’s two lost points”;
“An excellent game with ten men again. With eleven players we would have won. This goal should have been counted";
“We deserve much more!”;
"Unfair result";
“We realized too late how weak the opponent was. We lost due to the overestimation of Kairat. This draw is tantamount to defeat if you expect to advance further”;
“We traveled thousands of kilometers to see Paphos dominate in Almaty. And all that “Kairat” could do was one barbell and endless falls”;
“If the match had been played in Cyprus, Kairat would not have lasted even a half. Only at home, with the support of the judges, do they look “menacing”;
“Kairat should erect a monument to Anarbekov. Without him there would have been a defeat right in Almaty”;
“Even the frost in Almaty could not cool our character. "Paphos" fought as if they were playing at home";
“Kairat didn’t show anything special, they just ran and hit forward. Even ten of us looked better”;
“Kairat played at home, but the atmosphere was like in training. Even the fans didn’t believe they could win”;
“The team deserves respect. Ten of us did what Kairat couldn’t do with eleven.”
